Install A Bathroom Wall Cabinet

Wall-mounted bathroom cabinets add extra space in your bathroom for toiletries and other items. Clear off the bathroom counter by storing toothpaste, topical ointments and hair products inside the cabinet. Most bathroom wall cabinets feature a mirrored door for added functionality, but if you have a mirror you can find cabinets without them. Purchasing a bathroom wall cabinet from a home improvement store and installing it yourself is a simple task with a helper and a few tools.

Instructions

1. Use a stud finder to locate the wall studs near where you plan to hang the cabinet. Draw a line down the wall with a pencil indicating where each stud is located. Draw the line past where you intend to install the cabinet so you can see it during installation. For increased stability, install your bathroom wall cabinet into two studs.

2. Draw an outline of where you want your cabinet installed. Refer to the cabinet dimensions and draw a rectangle the exact size of the back of the cabinet. Use a measuring tape and level to ensure straight, level lines of the correct length.

3. Screw a 1-by-3-inch support rail along the bottom edge of the cabinet to increase stability. The top edge of the support rail should be installed along the bottom line you drew for the cabinet. Choose a support rail that is as long as the wall-mounted cabinet is wide. Use four 2-inch screws to secure it into place. For best results, install some or all of the screws into the studs.

4. Lift the wall-cabinet and place it against the wall on top of the support rail, holding it in place. You'll need the help of at least one other person so one of you can hold it in place while the other screws it to the wall. Install a 2-inch screw into one side of the rear wall of the cabinet near the top of the unit. Ensure that the screw is going through the stud you found previously. Put another 2-inch screw through the back wall of the cabinet on the other side, hitting another stud.

5. Erase any visible pencil lines. Wipe out the inside of the cabinet (there will be wood shavings from the screws) and place the shelves inside. Now it's ready to be filled up.
