Teenage Bedroom Ideas

Your teenagers probably has some very strong ideas about design and decor, especially when it comes to their own living spaces. Giving them a little creative leeway when you decorate their rooms can make them feel like they have a place of their own, that reflects their own personality. Add some finishing touches to create a room that is truly all theirs.

Color Scheme

Choose a color palette for the bedroom that reflects your teen's favorite colors, within reason. If her favorite color is black, try doing accents in that color rather than painting the entire room black. If she can't decide on a color, try looking for inspiration from her school colors, clothes or accessories. Don't be afraid of choosing vivid, saturated colors like hot pink or turquoise. They can add character to a room, and punch up otherwise boring architecture. However, if you're set on a white room, be sure to add lots of colorful accessories or colorful furniture.

Furniture

When choosing furniture for a teenager's bedroom, you need to consider two factors: comfort and friends. The first, comfort, is important, as teens spend a lot of time in their bedroom. A oversize upholstered chair would be a good place to get some homework done, and body pillows for the bed make it an inviting place to relax. Then, you'll need to consider friends that come over to hang out. Place beanbag chairs around the room so friends have a place to flop down when they come over. But don't make the mistake of over stuffing the room with too much furniture; you want to leave it as uncluttered as possible.

Accessories

Choosing accessories is an easy way to really add personality to your teenager's room. You can allow him to choose the bulk of them, and then add a few touches, like a "friend wall," which is a patch of wall where friends can write funny messages or draw pictures. You can always paint over it later, and your teen will love the personalization. You might also cover a patch of wall with corkboard, so that pictures can be displayed without making holes in the walls. Remember to also provide plenty of mirrors, so that your teen can constantly check himself out before heading to school each morning.
