Wall Decor For A Kid'S Bedroom

This bedroom is functional, but says nothing about the kid who lives in it.

A kid's bedroom is his sanctuary. It represents who your child is in a very physical way. As a result, the room's wall decor is an important aspect of this expression, and there are many ways that you can help to make it unique. Before beginning a remodel, sit down with your child and talk about what he wants. The more involved he is, the more he will love his bedroom.

Murals

Murals can transform a bedroom into your child's favorite place or hobby. From spaceships and castles to gymnastics and baseball, a wall mural can be as complex or simple as you want it to be. Murals can either be painted by hand or applied in pre-made sheets, similar to wallpaper. These sheets are available at many home decor stores as well as online. If you prefer to paint, you should first sketch the entire mural onto the wall in pencil. After that, painting the mural is no more complicated than a large paint-by-numbers project.

Chalkboard Paint

Several companies manufacture paint that transforms any surface into a chalkboard. When applied to a wall, this paint provides a tough, durable surface that your child can draw on, erase and decorate again. To minimize clutter, establish a dedicated place for chalk and erasers, such as a small basket screwed to the wall. The paint should be cleaned with a damp rag from time to time.

Hand Prints and Messages

One way to personalize your child's bedroom is to bring her friends in on the decorating action. Paint the walls your child's favorite color, then pour a few shallow pans of contrasting color paints. Her friends can dip their hands in the paint and decorate the wall with hand prints. Hand out metallic markers so that messages can be written next to the hand prints. Over the years, your child's walls will grow and evolve, offering a visual progression of her childhood.

Corkboard Wall

Like chalkboard paint, a wall covered in corkboard tiles allows your child to constantly rearrange the decorations in his room with thumbtacks. Sold in square foot tiles at any hardware store, the corkboard can be attached to the wall with construction glue. You can paint the wall any color, or leave the corkboard naturally finished. As your child gets older, you can paint a giant dartboard on the wall for even more fun.
