Decorate A Guy'S Bedroom

Dark furniture and matching lamps work well in a man's bedroom.

Contemporary men's bedrooms offer a lot of latitude for individuality. It isn't necessary to stick to limited masculine colors or styles. In general, guys opt for simple furniture and fabrics. Reflect the guy's tastes in the items decorating the room--or your own, if you're decorating your own room. A key to decorating a man's bedroom effectively involves expressing his personality and including items that don't have to be on display.

Instructions

1. Select a queen-sized bed for an intimate guy's bedroom. Give it the central position in the room--for example, with the head of the bed centered on the wall to the left of the door or the wall facing the door.

2. Dress a guy's bed with solid or white 100-percent cotton sheets with matching pillowcases.

3. Choose a comforter for year-round use and two covers for it. A light-colored cover works well for the warm seasons and a dark one for winter. Having an extra cover gives you a backup in case of a spill or pet hair on the cover before a date.

4. Add two big, firm pillows to the bed for reading, TV watching, sitting up and talking or having breakfast in bed. When you make the bed, stand them up side by side against the headboard and plump the regular bed pillows in front of them.

5. Arrange a nightstand with a lamp on each side of the bed.

6. Center the entertainment center or armoire across from the bed. Styles with doors that close allow a guy to display or conceal the electronics. Doors also reduce dust getting into the components.

7. Place the dresser near the closet for convenience. Put a man's jewelry box on the dresser to enclose watch, cuff links and other small items to keep the dresser neat.

8. Hang flat-panel curtains in a solid color or subtle pattern. Curtains that hang flat, without gathers, present a tailored look that suits a guy's room.

9. Add personality to the walls with framed art that expresses your interests, such as vintage posters, black-and-white photography, originals or prints by a favorite artist. Group a series of images on one wall for an eye-catching effect.
