Simple Bedroom Ideas

Plain bedroom

Your bedroom should be your oasis to get away from the daily cares of life. However, complicated design ideas and old furniture and fixtures can make your bedroom more of an eyesore than an oasis. Instead of stressing over big changes in the room, try adding small, simple elements that give the room more interest and functionality without breaking your bank.

Headboard

An inexpensive and easy change you can make to your room to give it some extra visual interest is to change out your plain headboard for a more artistic alternative. You could check out local flea markets for large pieces of artwork that you could then hang above the bead for a headboard. Antique mirrors, refinished to match the color and decor of the room not only look more interesting, but also make the room look bigger by adding a reflection surface. You could even use painter's tape to tape off the shape of a headboard and paint one behind the bed. It's an easy change to make to a plain bedroom.

Bedside Tables

Bedside tables are an essential piece of furniture in your room. Where else would you put your alarm clock and glass of water? Most bedside tables are standard issue and not much to write home about. But simply changing out that piece of furniture for something more interesting can make your room feel so much more chic. Swap out your plain table for an antique desk or add an old milk can that you picked up at an antique store and refinished to match your room. Even some large, colorful books stacked together and held with some packing twine can make a visually appealing bedside table that livens up your room.

Focal Point

One of the biggest problem with a lackluster bedroom is that it probably doesn't have a focal point to anchor the room anywhere. Focal points establish a room's design and give the eye something to gravitate to. You can find items for focal points just about anywhere. Four circular place mats can be hung geometrically to make a large, polka dotted focal point. Interesting artwork, framed newspaper articles or large words made from wooden letters can also give the eye something to draw toward. Choose something that you love, that you won't mind looking at every day, to definitively stake out your bedroom's style in a simple way.
