Color And Decorating Ideas For A Master Bedroom

Choose colors that complement your furniture.

Create a master bedroom that enhances your mood when you walk in the room. Choose an overall theme that highlights soft fabrics, lace or decorative art. Color selection is essential for any master bedroom because the colors of the walls tie other decor pieces together and set the tone in the room. Some neutral shades work well with just about any furniture style or decor embellishments.

Romantic With Rich Colors

A romantic master bedroom should appeal to the senses. Bold rich colors paired with soft fabrics and a few romantic accents create a room for you and your spouse to enjoy. Select a dark rich shade, such as plum, burgundy or forest green, for an accent wall. Paint one wall and leave the remaining walls white. Place your bed up against this wall and select three framed pieces of art to highlight above the bed. Choose art that appeals to the overall theme of the room. Pictures of red and white roses along with other types of flowers work well in this type of room. However, sunset or landscape scenes can also work. Align the framed art in a row on the wall the above the bed and space each frame 2 inches apart. Good sizes for frames and art are 10-by-13 or larger. Adorn your bed with soft silk or velvet fabrics. Canopy style beds go well in a romantic room. Place dried flowers in a vase on the dresser and bring in other old-fashioned accents like a handheld mirror and brush to place on the dresser.

Pastel Green With Cherry Wood Furniture

Pastel green walls complement rich dark cherry wood furniture. Paint all the walls pastel green and leave the ceiling white. Hang up framed art or photos with wooden cherry wood frames. Decorate the bed with pastel green bedding. Lace accents on the bedding and pillows along with lace curtains work well in this type of room. Other shades of green, such as lime or forest green, won't work well in this room. Forest green is too dark next to cherry wood furniture and lime green goes better in a citrus style room with white furniture.

Neutral Shades With Lacy Accents

Neutral shades such as beige, cream and light brown work well with different fabrics and other accents. Paint the walls beige and leave the ceiling white. Install lacy curtains or curtains with lace accents along the edges. Decorate with white furniture and install white crown molding if your budget allows for this. Choose white wooden frames rather than oak to prevent creating too much contrast with the furniture. A vanity table with a small stool works well in this type of room.
