Dining Room Window Ideas

Add your personal style to your dining room windows.

When decorating dining rooms, windows are usually not the biggest concern. Adding flair with different types of drapes, curtains or shades can brighten, add elegance, promote privacy and give you the ideal dining room feel you are seeking. There are many types of curtains, drapes and shades from which to choose. There are also many accessories you can add to a window. You may even consider tinted windows.

Wood Shades and Blinds

Wood shades and blinds give a more elegant look than plastic, vinyl or fabric shades and blinds. Make sure the shades or blinds match the rest of the wood in your dining room. Adding wood shades or blinds can give the dining room a natural, organic feel.

Luxurious Fabrics

If creating an elegant dining room is your goal, add fabrics made of silk, velvet, leather or suede to give dining room windows a luxurious look.

Bamboo Curtain Rods

Instead of using boring metal or plastic curtain rods, try bamboo curtain rods. If you can't find bamboo rods, purchase bamboo sticks and create your own.

Buttoned Border

Sew buttons onto the bottom, top, sides or a combination of all to add a buttoned border to any curtain. This gives a creative, artsy feel to the dining room. This idea is perfect if you're crafty or can sew. You could even add buttons to cloth napkins to match.

Tablecloth

Drape a small, square, patterned tablecloth over the curtain rod to embellish solid colored curtains, blinds or shades. Fold the tablecloth as you would a bandanna so it forms a triangle. Then simply drape it over the rods with the corners pointing toward the floor.

Tinted Windows

If your dining room has a nice view you might not want to cover it up. The sun can be blinding, bright and even annoying when you're trying to enjoy a family meal. Install tinted windows in your dining room so you don't have to worry about the bright glare during mealtime. You don't have to stick to the typical tinted windows, either; lightly tinted windows or color tinted windows can add refreshing effects to the dining room.
