Asian Bedroom Styles

Asian decor elements can be used to create an Asian bedroom style.

Asian design styles are quite different from American designs and are not only aesthetically pleasing but also incorporate a desired atmosphere into the room. Aspects of Asian style can be applied to the bedroom and are quite effective; they inspire balance and a peaceful ambience, perfect for a good night's sleep. There are many different styles that can be applied to a bedroom; you simply need to choose the ones you enjoy.

Furniture

Chinese furniture features rosewood, teak and ebony woods that can have precious materials such as jade or mother of pearl inlays. Bedroom furniture made of these materials will produce an Asian style. You can also include furniture pieces traditionally used in Japan that include stack chests or trunks and furniture that does not use glue or nails to stay together but all joints are hand crafted and act as shock absorbers. It is possible to find types of bedroom furniture specifically inspired by traditional Chinese and Japanese furniture.

Bedding

Asian styles of bedding use materials that are common to Asia as well as colors and patterns that are typical of the Orient. In particular, silk fabrics are common in Asian-style rooms, as Asia is where silk is produced. Dual colors in bedding are typical of Asian styles, and common color combinations include white and ivory, green and ivory, blue and pink, black and white and red and black. Patterns that are commonly found on Asian-style bedding are haiku designs and those featuring symbols important to Asian culture, such as dragons and bamboo.

Accessories

There are many decorations or accessories that can be added to a bedroom to provide Asian style. Japanese screens or prints can be hung on the wall. Bamboo plants and bonsai can add a vegetative touch to the room, if you enjoy having plants in the bedroom. Think about finding accessories, such as lamps and lampshades, baskets and chests that use textures found in Asian decorations such as red and gold tassels, natural stones and polished wood.

Window Treatments

Asian window treatments are typically simple but elegant. Wooden or bamboo blinds are commonly used in Asia. Choose curtains that have tassels and have complimentary colors to the main room decor. Many times window treatments will be made of neutral colored material, so they do not distract the eye from the main focus of the bedroom, normally the bed. Material for curtains is typically woven, if you can find such Asian inspired material.
