Tropical Dining Decor

Accessories like coastal-colored vases and exotic flowers will give a dining room a tropical feel.

If you don't have the time or money for a beach vacation or you just love that ocean theme, update your dining room to reflect a tropical oasis. Use island-inspired additions, such as bright colors and fresh flowers, to give the space a touch of the tropics. The exotic decor will make each family dinner feel like a mini retreat.

Wicker Furniture

Wicker furniture will give the dining room a casually elegant vibe. Choose either a white or tan wicker table featuring a glass top. You can customize the look by placing plush cushions on the dining room chairs. Cushions featuring shades of coral, turquoise, banana yellow or lime green will tie into the tropical theme.

Bamboo Touches

Bamboo decor touches will lend an authentic tropical look to the dining room. Accent the table with natural woven-bamboo place mats or a center runner. Place a large bamboo rug under the dining room table to make the area the room's focal point. Bamboo candle holders can display votives featuring tropical scents, such as plumeria and mango.

Tropical Plants

Use tropical plants as a natural air freshener as well as a way to give the dining room a burst of fresh color. Display a bouquet of white orchids, bright orange birds-of-paradise and pink ginger flowers in a vase on a wall shelf or in the center of the table. As a creative touch, hang a painting featuring vibrant tropical flowers on a dining room wall.

Island-Inspired Centerpieces

If you're hosting a tropical-themed dinner party, create an eye-catching table centerpiece that reflects the decor. Get creative by filling a square glass vase with sand and small seashells. Nestle a pillar candle, which will cast a soft glow across the dinner table, into the sand. As a more simple approach, fill a large glass bowl with oranges, lemons and limes.
