Decorate A Boy'S Bedroom With A Bunk Bed

Decorate around a bunk bed in a boy's room.

Placing bunk beds in a boy's bedroom gives him open space to play and provides a place for his friends to sleep. Bunk beds also serve to save space if you have two boys who share a room. Decorate the bedroom in a way that minimizes the giant bunk bed, unless it's the kind with a built-in play center, such as a slide. Consider the size of the room, the boy's age and the activities his room is used for before you begin planning out the room's decor.

Instructions

1. Choose a theme based on your son's passions or hobbies. Concentrate on a color scheme, instead, if a theme isn't your style. If you have two boys sharing a room, use something they both enjoy or compromise between their favorite things.

2. Paint the walls or hang a border in the room. Use wall graphics that peel off of the walls without any mess or residue if you're renting or move around a lot.

3. Arrange the furniture, including the bed, in a visually appealing way that maximizes the space in his room. Avoid covering a window with the bed since that would block out the natural light, causing the room to appear dark and uninviting.

Place a dresser or shelf against the short end of the bunk bed if that isn't where the ladder is located. If a TV is used in the boy's bedroom, hang it in an opposing corner or place it on a dresser or shelf that's situated across from the bunk bed. Each bunk should have a clear view of the TV.

4. Hang a small light, pictures, shelf or graphics on the walls directly above each bed. If two boys share the room, this gives them each something special to identify their space. Lights are practical for boys who like to read in bed and shelves can hold small treasures or books.

5. Frame pictures, posters or your child's own artwork to hang on the walls, unless the walls have a mural or graphics. An alternative is to hang shelves on the walls to display collectibles or decor that fits in with the theme. For example, sports themed rooms can hold helmets, balls or trophies and space themed rooms can hold models of space ships or the solar system.

6. Add the final touches, such as the bedding, curtains and a rug that complement the color scheme or theme.

7. Use the space beneath the bunk bed for storage bins on wheels. This will give the boy extra space to store toys he frequently plays with or out-of-season clothing.
