Beach Master Bedroom Ideas

Displaying shells transforms a room into a beach-themed room.

Bring your favorite beach elements into your home by decorating your master bedroom with a variety of beach-themed decorations. You can avoid a major overhaul of your master bedroom by re-purposing existing furniture. Decorating in a beach style does not need to be expensive. In fact, some items are free.

Blue and Green Color Scheme

Paint one or some of the walls in the bedroom a light blue or light green shade. Use white, ivory or beige on the other walls and any trim because it reflects the color of sand. The goal of decorating a master bedroom with a beach theme is to keep it open and airy, so avoid using any dark colors.

Shell Decor

Pick up shells on your next visit to the beach or purchase pre-cleaned shells from a home decorating or craft supply store. Place shells on top of furniture or pile them into clear vases. If you want to undertake a more advanced shell craft and use it for decoration, glue flat shells to the back of a shallow shadow box and hang it on the wall.

Starfish Prints

Integrate starfish prints in soft colors in the bedding and window treatments. Use light blue or light green starfish images to accent the wall colors or use pink starfish for a more feminine appeal. Tan or ivory starfish prints also work well because they complement the light-colored trim throughout the master bedroom.

Whitewashed Furniture

Using whitewashed furniture allows you to use wood pieces in the d cor without making the room visually heavy. Find paint in a shade of white, ivory or beige and paint your old bedroom furniture-dressers, headboards and mirror frames-with a whitewash finish.

Plants

Adding plants or flowers, fresh or dried, enhances the natural appeal you are creating in the master bedroom. Focus on finding light-colored flowers such as daisies, baby’s breath and orchids instead of darker flowers such as red roses or deep purple lilies.

Beach wood

Beach wood is another item you can pick up on your next trip to the beach. Beach wood can be used by itself as a decoration or is suitable as a base for furniture. Set a small piece of it on a nightstand or rest a large piece in the corner of the bedroom. Use it for furniture by constructing a headboard out of flat pieces or piling a few pieces together as a side table base to hold a glass tabletop.
