Window Treatments For Short Windows In A Bedroom

Bedrooms are definitely one of the rooms in the house where at least some sort of window treatment is necessary. If the windows are short, then coming up with an appropriate window treatment that looks nice and fits in with the d cor of the bedroom can be a little difficult. This is where your imagination kicks in. Try some different window treatment ideas for those short windows and see what you like best.

Valances

Use a valance to cover the windows. These valances may completely cover your short windows, depending on how short they are. Hanging valances will prevent you from having to make any adjustments to full-size curtains to make them fit in the window. If you want complete privacy, and the windows are all close to each other and are never opened, consider hanging one valance all the way across.

Handkerchiefs

Sew together a few handkerchiefs to make a window treatment for your short bedroom windows. It will be necessary to measure the width of the window so you know how many handkerchiefs to purchase. Add extra if you want to sew decorative folds into the handkerchiefs. The handkerchiefs come already hemmed and probably the right length to fit in your short window. This makes it easy for you to simply sew them together end-to-end and then sew a casing for the curtain rod.

Blinds

If you want to use blinds as window treatments take careful measurements of the windows and then see what size blinds you can find already made. Depending on the size of your short windows it may be necessary to have custom blinds made. Ordering custom blinds is a good option for those who will be living in the house for a long time as the blinds can be a little pricey.

Fake Out

Give your short windows the illusion of being longer. Place some of your bedroom furniture directly under the window if they are up high enough. A dresser that comes up to the bottom edge of the window or a bed with a headboard that comes up to the bottom edge of the window are both good options. Make a separate headboard for use with a Hollywood frame that meets the bottom of the window. Then hang long panel curtains at each side of the window so that they come down alongside the sides of the dresser or bed.
