Decorating Ideas For A Dining Room Clock

It's past time to add some decorations on your dining room clock.

Decorators and homeowners often regard clocks as simple home accessories, for hanging on a wall or placing on a desk or table. You shouldn't overlook clocks as potentially interesting design elements, however. Instead, come up with ways to decorate your clocks, especially in a communal environment as a dining room, to shine a spotlight on this invaluable home accessory and allow it to deliver a stronger punch.

Holiday Themes

Decorating the clock in the dining room during the holidays is as simple as incorporating adornments from the Christmas tree onto the clock as garlands. For example, drape tinsel or garlands of popcorn or cranberries onto and around the clock. Select choice ornaments from the tree and hang them from areas of the clock, such as posts or corners, if available. Wrap long lengths of ribbon around the clock in festive holiday colors such as red or green or gold. It's OK if the ribbons just hang off the clock in a haphazard, asymmetrical manner; it will add to the effect.

Miniatures

This decorating strategy is best for cuckoo clocks and certain grandfather clocks that feature small built-in shelves or ledges jutting out in front. Select two or three choice miniatures and surround the clock with them. For example, pick distinctive items like a tiny chaise lounge and stool or a miniature dining room table or even a miniature clock. If you're decorating a clock that doesn't have a built in shelf, install a small shelf directly beneath the clock, creating a place where the miniatures can go. In this fashion, you're taking your clock and transforming it into something that hosts a display. If you have a child with a doll house, just borrow these items from her. If not, any miniatures shop or large craft store should sell such items.

Photograph Frames

This decorating method will unobtrusively frame your dining room clock, bringing more attention to it as well as showcase members of your family. Select four framed photographs of people in your family and place one at the north point of the clock, above the 12; one at the east point of the clock, next to the 3; one at the south point of the clock, below the 6; and one at the west point of the clock, next to the 9. Make sure that all the photographs have the same type of frame and are roughly the same size or it will make the whole display look too busy.
