Decorate your bedroom in two colors that are similar or that complement each other.
The best way to create a bedroom with a harmonious look and feel when using two colors is to use either monochromatic or complementary colors. Monochromatic colors lay side by side on the color wheel, while complementary colors are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. These color schemes are pleasing to the eyes and can be used throughout the bedroom.
Painting Stripes
Decorate your bedroom in two different colors by painting a series of stripes throughout the room. Painting horizontal stripes can make a bedroom appear larger, while painting vertical stripes can make a bedroom appear to have more height. Stripes can be painted in even or varying widths. Painting stripes in complementary colors would be too jarring so it's best to apply monochromatic-colored stripes. For example, use a basic blue plus a lighter blue tint, such as sky blue.
Using a Dominant Color
When decorating a bedroom using two colors, you can choose one dominant color plus an accent color. This can be achieved using monochromatic or complementary colors. When using the complementary color scheme, for example, choose pink as the dominant color for all your walls, window treatments and bedding. Pink's complementary color is mint green, so use this color sparingly, perhaps on lampshades, throw pillows, picture frames or vases.
Color Blocking
Combine the use of two colors to create the look of color blocking in your bedroom. To color block, you can simply choose a paint color and its complementary color; any color plus a neutral shade; or a dark color and a tint of this color. For example, you can combine aqua and orange, turquoise and brown, or green and mint green. Color blocking can be achieved by painting the lower part of your wall--about 3 feet from the bottom up--with one color, and painting the upper portion with the other color.
Combined Colors
Instead of choosing two different colors throughout the bedroom, you can decorate by selecting things that are already a combination of two colors. For example, you can choose two-toned wallpaper, throw pillows, bedding, picture frames, lampshades, vases and area rugs. When decorating using combined colors it's important to use these two-toned items sparingly. For example, choose them for your bedding and wall treatments, or for your walls plus an area rug.
