The bedroom is where you should feel relaxed and at peace. It's the place you rest your energies and refuel those energies through sleep. In feng shui, the placement of your bed is a very important factor. Your health and well-being depend on where your bed is placed.
Furniture Placement
Your bed should be placed looking toward the door, but not in direct line with it. If the foot of the bed faces the door directly, you're in for a heap of trouble as, according to the Chinese, this is the position of death (out the door feet first). Hang a crystal overhead between your feet and the door if you can't move the bed. Another poorly aligned bed is where the door is in direct line with your bed, cutting across some area of your body as you sleep. To remedy this (if you can't move the bed), place a trunk or chair at the foot of the bed, with a red item inside or on the chair. In feng shui, the color red can be used to attract good energy, or chi, or reflect it away.
The head of the bed should not be under a window. If this is the case, put a red object on the windowsill. Unless it's a child's room, the bed should not be against a wall on one side, unless you prefer to be alone. If two people share the bedroom, there should be enough room to walk around the bed. There should also be two nightstands or bedside tables.
Mirrors activate chi energy and therefore should not be placed in a bedroom. You're aiming for calm and relaxed. If you must keep a mirror, place it on the inside door of the closet or wardrobe.
Televisions, exercise equipment, computers and other electronic devices don't belong in a bedroom, because they cause too much energy and you will find yourself wanting to exercise or work in this room. If you need a television, try to keep it in a cabinet that has doors that can be closed before going to bed.
Beams
A word about beams. Overhead beams are considered bad feng shui, especially in a bedroom, where your health could suffer, should the beam dissect part of the bed. If there are beams here, place mirrors (facing up) on both nightstands. Or hang a crystal from the beam.
The Feeling
Your bedroom should be inviting and tranquil. Use your intuition. If the bedroom feels safe, secure and peaceful, you've done a good job. Soft colors, some throw rugs (if the floor is wood), toss pillows---these soften the space and invite soothing rest. Remember to position the bed facing the door, but not in direct line with it.
