Simple accents will give your bathroom a vibrant personality.
Many college students begin school sharing a bathroom with a number of other people. Finally having a private bathroom is another milestone in your life, as you graduate to an apartment or dorm with a private bath. Make the most of it by decorating with your own personal style.
Neon Seashore
Put a twist on the traditional bathroom seashore style by decorating yours in neon colors. Stick to one or two bright colors, though you could use subtler colors as accents. Create a line of bright fish--or a school of them--scrolling around the wall. Use wall stickers to create your design unless you can get permission to paint the room.
Fantasy Land
Use a mermaids (or mer-people) theme to turn your bathroom into a fantasy land. You might also hang pictures of sea serpents and other mythical beings of the ocean, using inexpensive frames. Spray-paint the frames in colors that match your d cor.
Octopus' Garden
Create a bottom-of-the-ocean theme with an octopus, crabs, fish, snails, seaweed and other marine life. Find small treasure chests to place on the counter for storing hair accessories or other small items. Use green and blue as primary colors for this theme.
Bold Flowers
Decorate with lots of big, bold flowers to keep the bathroom looking fresh and cheerful. Your walls are probably an off-white color, or another neutral tone, so choose bold red or purple flowers to add color. Add color with a shower curtain, floor mats and towels and hang a garland of flowers and ivy above the mirror. If you have enough counter space, place slim vases with big flowers on them.
Hollywood Glam
As My Lifetime suggests, go glam with some easy accents. The glam theme is shiny and monochromatic; you might use pink, black and silver, for instance. If you have a black and white checkered floor, you're off to a good start, or you can accessorize with dark or checkered floor mats, as the website says. Choose an art deco soap tumbler soap dish and fancy light switch plates, as suggested.
Storage Space
Finding room for all of your bathroom necessities and those of your roommates can be a challenge. Choose a small shelf you can hang on the back of the door, install hooks on the wall and hang shampoo holders in the shower for storing all your bath products. And rather than storing lotions and other bath products in plain view, put them into pretty boxes or baskets to create a more attractive look, as described in an article on the CNN website. Visit a thrift shop or garage sales to find a small shelf to place against the wall for extra storage as well and paint it to match the room.
