Decorating your bedroom with things that you made or designed can be both fun and satisfying. Items that you can make and design for your bedroom include curtains, quilts, headboards and embellished furniture. The problem begins with what to do first. Think about incorporating matching colors into the decorating scheme to pull the room's finished look together. Add embellishments, such as decorative curtain rods, later.
Instructions
Curtains
1. Make simple curtains by cutting pieces of fabric measuring 6 inches longer than the length and width from the center of windows.
2. Turn under the fabric's edges along the sides and bottom by half an inch, then another half an inch. Pin the fabric in place. Sew to the fabric together to form a hem.
3. Fold down the top edge of the fabric 5 inches. Turn under the raw edge of the fabric, pin it in place and sew it together. Sew another seam 2 inches from the top of the folded edge to form a rod pocket casing.
Furniture Decals, Stencils
4. Paint old furniture with spray paint in colors that will coordinate with fabric and other items in the room for a new look.
5. Find decals to transfer onto furniture such as a dresser. Seek decals that will fit into the room's d cor.
6. Or, paint the furniture using stencils. Tape the stencils onto the furniture. Dab the paint on following the outlines of the stencils.
7. Remove the stencils and allow the paint to dry. Add a clear coat finish to protect the designs.
Mirror Etching
8. Etch a mirror with the stencils used on furniture or by simply adding your initials to it with etching cream. Tape a stencil you want to use to the mirror if you decide to use a pattern.
9. Read through the directions that come with the etching cream. Dab the etching cream over the stencil.
10. Allow the etching cream to dry slightly. Wash off the etching cream to reveal the design transferred to the glass.
