Your child will enjoy playing in her own space.
Design a bedroom featuring your child's favorite cartoon characters or animal. Ask your child to get involved in the decorating process. Take him with you to the store to pick out decor items for the room. Ask her to help choose paint colors and help with painting as well.
Story Book Theme
A story book themed room is ideal for a toddler or small child who enjoys old-fashioned stories and characters. Paint trees and flowers on the wall to simulate a forest. Choose one wall to paint a large castle on. Paint the ceiling blue with white fluffy clouds. When the paint is dry, put several small glow-in-the-dark stickers of stars and planets on the ceiling. Choose old-fashioned white furniture and other accents such as a mushroom lamp shade. Hang up framed photos from pages of your child's favorite story books.
Country Cottage
A country cottage look is the perfect room for a "girly" toddler or small child. Find a child-size white wicker table and chair set and other wicker baskets. Place a miniature tea set on the table for play and decoration. Fill the baskets with your child's favorite stuffed animals or other toys. Choose white wooden furniture to match the wicker baskets and find a canopy bed. Drape white, purple, or pink fabric on the canopy. Choose old-fashioned lacy curtains and other accents such as sterling silver framed photos. Paint the walls feminine colors such as yellow, purple, or pink.
Frog and Turtle Room
Design a swamp room for the boy who loves creeping, crawling animals. Paint frogs and turtles along the border of the room. Select blue furniture and green bedding. Hang frog pictures up on the walls and find lily pad rugs to put on the floor. Look for a bed shaped like a turtle or frog. If you are unable to find this type of furniture, simply paint the bed green or blue. Select other frog and turtle decor to complete the look.
