Nests are found in hollow, moist wooden areas such as window frames or floorboards that have sustained water damage due to leaks, hence why they may be found in the bathroom.

Food and Water

Black carpenter ants, contrary to what you may think, do not eat wood, they simply chew through it make a nest or tunnel. They are attracted to sugary items and water, which is why a sink in the bathroom or other areas of the home where food is found could be attractive to them.

Damage

Black ants do not carry much threat to humans but they can be an unwanted guest that can cause a fair amount of damage to wooden structures. They will chew through rotting wood, so that door frames and window frames could become weak and need replacing after consistent attacks.

Wooden window frames in particular are areas where ants will get into your home, so make sure that you fix any decaying wooden structures and place insecticide around areas where ants could gain entry to your bathroom, such as windows, door frames and drain pipes. It also may make sense to use ant baits around water sources in your bathroom to kill ants already in the room.
