Sew Covers For Dining Room Chairs

Using a simple slipcover for your dining room chairs is a surprisingly easy way to instantly revamp boring chairs or chairs that are in bad condition. Sewing your own slipcovers allows you to create one of a kind slipcovers that precisely match your decor scheme.

Instructions

1. Run your measuring tape up the back of the chair starting at the spot you wish the slipcover to end in the back, then down the front of the chair and down the front edge of the chair, ending at the spot that you want the slipcover to end. Write down your total measurement and add 1.25 inch.

2. Measure the width of the chair at the widest section, add 2.75 inches and write this figure down. Cut out your fabric to these dimensions. Cut out eight ties that are 12 inches long and 1.5 inches wide from this same fabric.

3. Position the main piece of fabric on the chair and adjust it as necessary. Mark the four areas down the top, bottom and middle portions of the sides of the fabric where you want the ties to go using pins.

4. Cut your piece of lining fabric to the exact dimensions of your main piece of fabric. Cut the interlining to almost the same dimensions but 3/4 inch smaller on all sides. Position the interlining on the underside of the fabric. Fold and push the edges of the main fabric down all around the interlining. The main fabric, thus, acts as a sort of hem, holding the interlining in place.

5. Attach the ties with pins to their marked positions, pointing outwards. Position the lining on top of the main fabric so that their undersides are touching. Tuck the edges of the lining underneath the folded piece of main fabric. Sew all fabric in place by hand or with a sewing machine, creating a continuous row of stitches on top of this folded strip of main fabric. Sewing this row of stitches will naturally secure the ties in place.
