Clean Vintage Bathroom Tile

If you have vintage tile in your bathroom, you need to use great care when cleaning it. Using anything abrasive can scratch the tile, which probably cannot be easily replaced. It's also important not to use harsh cleaners since the tile may not be as strong and durable as it used to be. It's fortunate that there is a good cleaning option available that can get your tile looking its best, ridding it of the old, dingy appearance.

Instructions

1. Sweep the tile with a soft-bristled hand broom to clean off any dirt that's sitting on it but not physically stuck to it. Move it into the dustpan and throw it away being careful that it doesn't blow back onto the tile.

2. Add 1 qt. of lukewarm water to your pitcher. Then put in 1 tsp. of table vinegar. Stir the solution with a spoon. Drop your rag into the solution so that it is fully covered. Pull it out and give it a light squeeze to curtail any dripping.

3. Wipe all of the tile, rubbing in circles. If the tile is on a wall, start at the top and move down so you can catch any water that runs down the wall. If the tile is on the floor, start in the back, left corner and work your way to the bathroom door.

4. Put a second rag under the tap, soaking it in clear, lukewarm water. Use it to rinse the vinegar solution off the tile.

5. Check your tile for any yellowed or dingy areas. If you see any, pour 1/2 cup of 40% peroxide into a shallow bowl. Dip an old toothbrush in it and scrub these spots. Scrub any stained grout with the toothbrush and white toothpaste. Then follow step four to rinse these areas off.

6. Let the tile air dry or rub it with a microfiber cloth.
