A Jack and Jill bathroom is the name use for a shared bathroom that links two bedrooms. These bathrooms often link boys' and girls' rooms, hence the name "Jack and Jill." When decorating this shared space for a boy and a girl, instead of choosing an overly feminine or masculine design, use a neutral theme that appeals to both sexes to create a space that both individuals will enjoy and feel comfortable using.
Instructions
1. Select a gender-neutral theme for the bathroom. Ask the boy and girl who will be using the space for their input. Themes that work well for this shared space include the jungle and under the sea.
2. Paint the walls of the bathroom to create a backdrop for the selected theme. For example, in a jungle-themed room, paint the walls shades of green to evoke the look of trees. In an under the sea room, paint the walls blue hues to emulate the look of the ocean.
3. Hang decals on the walls to bring the theme to life. Display decals of monkeys, leopards, elephants and trees in a jungle-themed bathroom. In an under the sea bathroom, hang sea-related decals, such as colorful fish, whales and coral.
4. Hang a shower
5. Place an area rug in front of the shower that coordinates with the theme. In front of each child's sink, place matching area rugs or allow them to select their own area rug to add personalization to the space.
6. Place different accessories on the vanity or shelves of each person's side of the room to differentiate the spaces. For instance, use different toothbrush and soap holders, as well as storage items, on each side of the room. On the boy's side of the bathroom, place a framed picture of a merman or a cartoon monkey with obviously masculine features. On the girl's side, place a framed picture of a mermaid or a cartoon monkey with feminine features.
