Scifi Bedroom Ideas

While primarily used for sleep and storage, the bedroom is also an area where an individual can exhibit individual tastes and even create their ideal living space. For fans of science fiction, the possibilites for decoration are just about as endless as space. Various pieces of furniture and accessories can be assembled to create a room decked out in a sci-fi theme.

The Cosmos

Much of science fiction is set in space, where unknowns and possibilities abound. Sci-fi enthusiasts can sleep among the stars in a cosmos-style bedroom. Use glow in the dark star constellation sets available at novelty stores or large department stores. These constellations affix to the wall and create a look of starlight in the room at night. Planetarium projectors can also achieve this goal for those who don't wish to use adhesive on the walls. For younger sleepers, a rocket ship bed frame can add a whimsical touch, while an older individual may enjoy telescope by their bedroom window.

Alien Invasion

An alien ship theme can be a scary but thrilling science fiction motif. Create a darker look by using darker paint on the walls. Use vinyl dryer vent hosing or black ribbed hoses to simulate power lines. Drape them across the ceiling and in bunches at various points on the wall. Heavy curtains on the windows and alien Halloween masks hung on the walls can add the finishing touches.

Post Apocalypse

When it comes to decorating in a post-apocalyptic style, fill the room with an eclectic mix of junk, but not just any junk. After the end, this junk will be all that is left to remind you of what life used to be like. Classic glass soda bottles, old computer parts, license plates with state slogans, and dented furniture are all in abundance post apocalypse. Biohazard signs and stocks of canned goods complete the picture.

The Film Enthusiast

For the sci-fi film enthusiast, there is a wealth of science fiction imagery and memorabilia to draw upon. Decorate the walls with the science fiction movie posters of your choice. While authentic memorabilia, such as a light saber or a Star Trek uniform, may be expensive and hard to come by, replicas are widely available at specialty and novelty stores.
