Decorate A Bedroom In Purple & Stars

Purple makes a great wall color for bedrooms.

As your daughter gets older, her personality will emerge more distinctly and you will definitely get a sense for the things that she loves and hates. If your daughter is crazy for purple, she is not alone. Most girls fall in love with this color because its trendy enough to carry them through their preteen years and beyond. Add stars to a purple bedroom decor to create a whimsical bedroom that your daughter will enjoy for years.

Instructions

1. Paint the room with your daughter's favorite shade of purple. There are a variety of purple paint shades available from soft pastels, such as lavender and lilac, to richer plum and deep purple. Let your daughter look through purple paint chips from the hardware store until she finds a color that feels right for her bedroom. If she chooses a shocking shade of purple that you just can't live with, try to strike a compromise.

2. Consider painting one or two walls a different shade of purple such as lilac or plum. Or paint a few horizontal stripes that go all around the room on the middle of the walls in a different shade of purple. Or paint the room using purple in different shades. For example, paint the top part of the wall in a light purple, the middle part a grayed violet and the bottom part a rich shade of purple.

3. Choose bedding that has a star design on it. Accent her bed with throw pillows shaped like stars on the bed. Opt for fuzzy pillows in vibrant colors such as pink, yellow, green or aqua if you daughter likes a lot of bold colors. If she prefers lighter colors, go for throw pillows in shades of white or pastels. Metallic fabrics are another option that works for bold or pastel palettes.

4. Place a large plush star-shaped rug on the floor.

5. Decorate the room with a star wall border that is right below the ceiling or on the center of the room to create a sense of unity. The color of the star border should contrast against the wall for the best results.

6. Use sheer white curtains that have a star pattern over wooden shades or blinds. Or use white curtains with silver or black stars to help break up the purple.

7. Use silver accents to make the purple decor in the room stand out. Silver accessories such as lamps, bedside tables, photo frames, vases, wall clocks and mirrors look stunning in a purple room.

8. Decorate walls using decals of stars in a variety of sizes and colors. Consider using large decals or a mural of a celestial moon or sun over her bed. Hang art prints that include celestial scenes with stars on the wall. Use a decorative metallic lamp that has a star shaped base.
