Design A Zebrathemed Bedroom

Creating a zebra print room is easy.

Creating an exotic animal print bedroom with a zebra theme doesn't have to be difficult. Instead of an animal explosion with prints covering the entire space, mix it up and use the zebra pattern sparingly as a central theme and not a full room covering. Design your overall room decor to match a black-and-white concept, and then add in a hint of color with well-placed accents. Combine zebra bedding, rugs or even curtains with solids for a well-balanced sense of color and pattern.

Instructions

Painting

1. Select paint colors that either complement or contrast black and white. Although it might be tempting to cover all four walls in a zebra-like black and white, this color scheme may be either too much next to patterned room accents or not provide enough of a contrast. Choose either a neutral pallet of beige, sand or tan or try a bold accent color. Pick either one solid color or go with a two-toned look and create one bright accent wall.

2. Remove any exisiting furniture from your room. Mask off parts of the room that you don't want to paint with the painter's tape. This includes trim, doorways, wall-wall joints and wall-ceiling joints. Cover the floor with a tarp.

3. Pour your paint into the tray. Cut in on the edges with a nylon brush. Cover the rest of the wall with your paint roller. Allow drying time according to the manufacturer's directions. Recoat with a second layer.

Decoration

4. Place a zebra print area rug in a central spot in the bedroom. This may be under the bed, with the edges sticking out at least 3 feet on all sides, or in an empty space.

5. Dress your bed in a zebra print cover and matching pillow shams. Accent this patterned decor with similar zebra-themed curtains or fabric-covered blinds.

6. Add an extra pinch of the zebra pattern, as well as visual interest, with an animal print poster. Frame a simple print or an actual image of zebras. Hang the picture on a prominent wall above a piece of furniture such as a dresser, desk or vanity table.

7. Choose a coordinating set of furniture, including dressers, a desk, headboard and more. Plain black or white pieces easily tie in to the overall theme, but wood tones will also work well in a zebra bedroom.
