Alternative Wall Coatings For A Restroom

Tiles are a practical restroom wall covering.

One of the decorating challenges of a restroom is the wall covering. The wall treatment needs to be resistant to water or even water-proof. However, there are options which offer this practicality as well as adding an attractive element to your decor.

Paint

Decorators recommend mildew-resistant paint for restrooms. Some primers and undercoats also have mildew-resistant properties. Paint developed specifically for the bathroom also may be easy to clean, an important consideration when cleaning the restroom. Avoid flat sheen paint; satin and semigloss sheen paints clean up nicely with a damp cloth.

Natural Stone

Natural stone adds a warm feel to the restroom. Choices include slate, marble, limestone and granite. The colors of natural stone range from pale cream and tan to a variety of blues, greens, browns and grays. Without a sealant, moisture might affect the stone.

Tile

Porcelain, ceramic or glass tiles provide a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. The wide range of available colors and patterns ensures that your decorative needs are met.

Vinyl

Vinyl wall coverings can add a touch of elegance without the luxury price tag. They look like wallpaper but are moisture resistant. Vinyl wall coverings are produced in a variety of colors and textures and are relatively easy to hang.
