New Bedroom Styles

Clear the furniture out of your new bedroom to showcase quality hardwood floors.

Updating your bedroom space will make the area much more exciting to enter and will reflect some of the new color and room accent concepts you've learned about decorating. While modern themes are the new bedroom trend, a "new" bedroom for you could mean adding a pop of color, replacing outdated furniture or adding artwork that is of personal significance to you.

Color Schemes

Modern color schemes are modest and understated, such as a room with only black and white furniture or walls or a bedroom in shades of gray. You can create a new bedroom for yourself by painting your accent wall a deep shade of gray and adding a black stripe to the center or adorning a white wall with light gray stripes. If you're changing your bedroom from bland to upbeat, create a jewel-toned space by adding turquoise and ruby red throw pillows to the bed, painting a small wall in the room an aubergine shade and including a lamp accented with a shade bordered in synthetic jewels.

Artwork

"New" artwork for a bedroom can include modern themes, like a single geometric shade housed in a silver or platinum frame or a framed print in a simple pattern like stripes or polka dots, which will add life to any wall in your bedroom, but limit your artwork to one large art piece on the main wall or a series of two or three small prints for a side wall if you're going for a modern look. To make the bedroom a new and exciting space that reflects your personality, you can enlarge photos of you and your significant other, your children or pictures you've taken of your favorite flowers or natural landscape and house them in frames in the colors of your choice. Or select a print from your favorite artist, and place it in an ornate gold or bronze frame to give your bedroom a touch of antique style.

Furniture

Replace the medium-colored wood furniture in your bedroom with pieces that have clean lines and that don't take up much room space, like a bed built close to the ground made of black or dark brown wood or a slim chest of drawers in dark gray to position against the right or left side wall. You can also add a pop of color to the room by adding a cherry red nightstand to the bed and distressing the wood to customize the piece. Sitting furniture, like a chaise or set of armchairs in a warm shade of orange to complement the other rich brown or black furniture in the room, is an eye-catching but sophisticated addition as well.

Decorative Accents

Additional room features, like small shelves on the wall to display scented candles, or figurines made of porcelain or granite that will rest on the top of your dresser or in the most prominent corner of the room, will refresh your bedroom space. Sconces on the side wall will showcase brightly colored candles or tiny picture frames housing images of family and friends. A modern bedroom has minimal accents, so choosing one or two of these is best when you're decorating with the current trends.
