Make Your Bedroom Look Posh

A tufted leather headboard makes a stylish statement in a bedroom.

Get away without going anywhere by creating a bedroom retreat that is reminiscent of a posh hotel room. Luxurious fabrics, eye-catching furniture pieces and stylish accessories can transform your bedroom from a ho-hum space to a haven where you enjoy retiring any time of the day. With a little imagination and some decorative accessories, you can give your bedroom an updated punch of style that may have your friends and family members asking if they can check-in.

Instructions

1. Create the look of empty picture frames on the walls with moldings. Make a large frame in the middle of a wall and flank it with two smaller frames. Choose two hues of the same color, a light blue and dark blue, for example, or two contrasting colors, such as blue and brown. Paint one color on the outside of the molding and the other color inside the molding.

2. Bring in furniture pieces that feature sleek lines. A dresser that has straight legs and drawers and simple drawer pulls is ideal for this space. A platform bed, which the mattress rests directly on, or a large headboard upholstered with tufted velvet or leather create a stylish look for your bedroom. Incorporate a chaise lounge or an overstuffed chair and matching ottoman to create a comfortable sitting area.

3. Dress the bed with a simple yet elegant suede comforter. For instance, if you've chosen blue for the wall colors, select a brown suede comforter. Place two separate piles of two plush pillows neatly stacked on top of each other at the head of the bed. Drape a decorative throw blanket across the foot of your bed.

4. Hang simple stainless steel or wrought iron wall sconces or swing arm lamps on the wall on either side of the bed. Display a decorative, ceiling-mounted light fixture or a more elaborate fixture, such as a chandelier that features crystals or dangling mirrors, in the center of the room.

5. Frame black-and-white photographs or close-ups of simple items, such as flowers, shells or trees, and display them on walls, tabletops or dressers.

6. Set plain stainless steel or crystal bud vases filled with individual blooms along the center of the top of the dresser.
