Fun Teen Girls Bedrooms

Teenage girls are tough to please when it comes to clothes, cars and home decorating. They want their things to be "off the chain" to pass the strict scrutiny their friends will give, and there is no mercy for a tired, outdated bedroom left over from days of childhood gone by. If Hello Kitty is the main component in your teenage daughter's room, it is time for a major overhaul. These fun ideas are sure to make your daughter the envy of all her friends.

Travel Zone

Draw inspiration from your teen's favorite destination. If she longs for a sandy stretch of beach next to sparkling blue water, use tropical colors to add island appeal to her space. Use white furniture to make the space appear larger, and add a mosquito net over her bed for a breezy, casual feel.

If the Far East beckons to her, add elements that represent Asian culture. Dark furniture with pagoda styling can be accented with rich, silk fabric in the bold colors of the Orient. Add accessories that further complement the theme, and do not be afraid to look in unusual places to find pieces that work. Asian inspired tableware can serve as a spot to store jewelry or school supplies and a lantern from the garden center might be the perfect lighting find.

Funky Zebra

Animal prints are always a hot choice for cool teens. Add a bold zebra print to the room in one of the major decorating elements. You could use a zebra patterned bedspread to serve as the main focal point of the room and add accents of solid colors in the form of painted walls, throw pillows and window treatments. Conversely, you could paint the walls in a black and white zebra pattern, while keeping the rest of the room's accessories simple with one or two other accent colors. Bold colors like lime green, turquoise or magenta work well in a black and white color scheme, and black furniture is the perfect complement.

Hot for Dots

Polka dots are a popular theme for teenage girls, and you can find this trend in both discount stores and high-end specialty stores. You can easily find everything you need to decorate from bedding to wall art in a color scheme that suits your girl. Use round stencils to add random polka dots to the room in colors chosen from the bedding. For a more interesting look, use different sizes of round stencils and overlap the images with contrasting colors. Add other round elements to the room to continue the polka dot theme.
