Bedroom Furniture Layout Ideas

Plan your bedroom furniture layout in advance.

Your bedroom is a place where you can go to rest and unwind. When you are considering ways to arrange your bedroom furniture, consider bedroom furniture layouts that favor space and comfort over being decorative. For most people, the bedroom is a personal sanctuary, so your bedroom design needs to suit you rather than be appropriate for visitors.

Bed

The bed is normally the focal point of the bedroom, and all other bedroom furniture is arranged around the bed. Place the bed up against the wall immediate opposite the bedroom door. This will help the bed to stand out from the rest of the room, and it makes the bed the first thing you will see when you walk into your bedroom. A headboard for your bed is usually necessary, but a large footboard can make the room seem smaller. Eliminate the foot board or bed posts to help make your room seem larger. Make sure your bed is centered with the wall to allow room on both sides of the bed for access. If your room is large enough, you may want to try putting your bed diagonally in the corner. This allows access on both sides of the bed, and it also creates an area behind the headboard where you could place a reading lamp.

Dresser

Your dresser can go up against the wall directly opposite your bed, centered with the wall. If you have limited floor space in your room but you have a large closet, you may want to see if you can put your dresser in the closet to help free up floor space. If you have an extra closet somewhere in the house, you might be able to use it to hang your clothes. It is not necessary to hang your clothes in your bedroom closet if you have alternatives.

Vanity

A vanity and chair can go in a corner of the bedroom that is away from the bed. It is best to not put the vanity near a window, as the glare from the sun may become too much when it hits the vanity mirror. When you are not using the vanity, have the chair pushed in so that you do not trip.

Chairs

If you have a television in your room or you like to read in your bedroom, set up a couple of comfortable chairs to help make your bedroom more functional. Try to set the chairs up together but away from the foot of the bed. Setting chairs up off to the side near the window can help give you a place to sit when you want to get away from the rest of the world. Comfortable reading chairs such as straight-backed chairs or padded armchairs can be ideal.
