Whatever your daughter's age, she will have her own opinions on decor.
Designing
Baby's Nursery
Little girls can have blue rooms as well as little boys.
Many people are still of the opinion that little girl's nurseries should be pink, but this really isn't the case. You may decide to design the room in keeping with the style of the rest of the house, whether that be modern, traditional or minimal. You could design a themed room, with large bright pictures and wall decals, though it can be easy to make the mistake of over-stimulating young babies with too much color and too many patterns. Aim to stick with natural colors to create a calming atmosphere for the baby and resist the urge to cram the room full of baby gadgets and toys.
Toddler's Bedroom
In most toddler's rooms, the toys alone offer plenty of color and texture.
The time will soon come when you need to alter several aspects of your child's room, to accommodate her changing needs. For example, the cot will make way for a bed, and items like baby baths and changing mats might make way for toy and clothing storage. At this age, you can really stimulate your child's senses with bright colors and bold patterns. Perhaps
Young Girl's Bedroom
At this stage, your daughter may want to choose her own decor.
Once your daughter has passed the toddler stage, you may find her bedroom needs updating again. She may start to have friends over to play, certain toys will have fallen out of favor, extra storage will be required for school uniforms and she may even like a small desk for art or homework. She will also have started to develop her own tastes and sense of style. This can be a great time to really involve your daughter in decorating her room, allowing her to choose her own colors and style. Money can be saved on more expensive items, such as new furniture, by painting the furniture that's already in the room.
Tween Bedroom
As your daughter matures, her taste in decor may do the same.
When your daughter hits the tween stage, she will definitely have her own opinions of how she wants her room to look, and she will probably be spending a lot of time in it. She may require a proper desk at this stage, both for homework and to act as a dressing-table. Toys may be replaced with CDs and books, so shelving can really help save space and create storage; pictures may be replaced with posters, so consider cork boards to save the paintwork. Also consider an area where she can display awards from school or clubs.
