When you decorate a little girl's bedroom, try to consider the types of things that she enjoys. For example, most little girls have a favorite color, television character or movie. So take those things into consideration when you start planning the room's decor. Decorating a little girl's room is a fun activity, so let her get involved with it as well.
Princess
Many little girls are into princesses, so use that as a theme for her bedroom. Paint the room in pale pink, lavender, yellow or blue with the trim painted in a darker color. Choose one wall and use it as a focal point by painting a castle or a large princess tiara on it. A four-poster bed will look perfect in this room, paired with a white canopy. Put shelves up in the room and put princess-like items on it, such as princess dolls, tiaras, glass slippers and princess books. Attach a bar to one of the walls and hang her princess dress-up clothes on it to display them.
Garden
Go with a garden theme for your little girl's bedroom. This is a good idea for a little girl who likes flowers, butterflies and other garden items. Paint the room in her favorite color. Then, stencil or freehand flowers, butterflies, lady bugs, caterpillars and dragonflies on the walls. If you want, create a mural on the bottom of the walls that looks like grass growing up, with flowers growing up above the grass. Choose bedding and curtains covered with flowers.
Ballerina
Some little girls begin taking ballet lessons at a very young age and might be interested in becoming a ballerina. While this is a phase for most little girls, indulge her by giving her a room that is fit for a ballerina. The traditional shade to paint a ballerina room would be pink, but go with purple, blue, yellow or whatever her favorite color is. Paint ballet slippers onto the wall or a large picture of a ballerina wearing a big, fluffy tutu. Frame pictures of ballerinas in various poses on her wall. If she likes taking ballet, install a mirror and a barre on one section of her wall so that she can practice.
Tomboy
While many little girls enjoy girlie themes, others might not be so into pink, princesses and fairies. If is more of a tomboy, embrace her personality with the decor of her room. For example, use primary colors rather than pale pastels. Paint all the walls in different colors. Place a train track or an indoor climbing toy on the floor. For the little girl who likes sports, frame pictures of children playing sports, such as soccer, softball or swimming.
