Install Peelandstick Linoleum Tiles In The Bathroom

Peel-and-stick tiles, whether they're vinyl or linoleum, are made to install without a separate adhesive. The adhesive is already on the back of the tile, covered with wax paper. You activate it by pulling off the paper, then simply pressing the tile to the floor. Since linoleum is completely waterproof, and easy to cut, this is a good solution for bathrooms.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water line to the toilet, twisting the valve clockwise. Flush the toilet several times to empty it of water. Use a wrench to disconnect the water line from the toilet. Remove the two floor bolts that hold the toilet in place on the floor, again using your wrench. Pull up the toilet and carry it from the bathroom.

2. Divide the floor into four square (if possible) or rectangular sections, using a chalk snapline to lay two intersecting lines over the center of the room, from the middle of each side to the middle of the side across from it. Adjust the lines against a carpenter's square as needed to ensure they're exactly perpendicular to each other.

3. Peel the wax paper backing off a linoleum tile. Press the tile to the floor at the intersection of the lines, so it's bordered by lines on two sides.

4. Peel the wax paper from a second tile. Press it alongside the first tile, butting them tightly together. Repeat and continue, laying each tile tightly against the previous one and working your way out in a grid pattern.

5. Lay all the full tiles that will fit in the room, leaving the areas along the walls and around the toilet drain open.

6. Cut tiles for the perimeter of the floor with a razor knife, scoring them alongside the square and bending them until they snap. Place the tiles on the floor.

7. Place full tiles over the toilet drain to trace the curve of the drain on the surfaces of the tiles. Cut the tiles at the curves with the razor knife. Peel the paper off and set the tiles around the drain.

8. Re-set the toilet back in place over the cut tiles. Reinsert the floor bolts and tighten them. Reconnect the water line. Run a bead of caulk around the toilet base where it meets the tiles.
