How Make A Cover For A Dining Room Chair

Making covers for your dining room chairs can solve a multitude of problems. If your chairs are dingy looking, do not match or you want to decorate for the holidays or a special event, using chair covers can work for you. All you need is a few yards of fabric and some basic sewing skills. Choose from a wide variety of fabrics, keeping in mind the use of the chair cover. For example, you may want to buy more serviceable fabric for everyday use than for the holiday get together.

Instructions

1. Cut the fabric in half, from selvage to selvage, to give you two pieces measuring 1 1/4 yard. Cut two lengths of ribbon measuring 18 inches each.

2. Measure about 18 inches along the selvage edge on one of the pieces of fabric. Do this on both sides and pin one of the lengths of ribbon to each spot, lining up the edges of the fabric and the ribbon. Baste the ribbon to hold it in place.

3. Layer the two pieces of fabric, with the right sides together. Use pins to hold the fabric in place, keeping the ribbon in between the two layers of fabric.

4. Sew the two pieces together along the selvage edge, removing the pins as you go.

5. Fold the outside edges of the fabric under 1/4 inch two times to hide the raw edges. Use pins to hold the fabric in place. Sew to form hemmed edges.

6. Drape the fabric over the chair, lining up the middle seam with the back of the chair. Pull the ribbons to the back of the chair and tie them to hold the chair cover in place.
