What Is Dining Room Interior Designing?
Planning a dining room that looks good and functions well can be a daunting task. Learn a few tips and tricks before you go shopping to make sure you select the right items for your room and avoid costly mistakes.
What's the Purpose?
People often look at dining rooms as an afterthought and think as long as a table and chairs fit in the room, that's all it really needs. A well-planned dining room can provide a haven from the outside world, draw the family together and make dinner something to linger over.
Where to Start
Build a scrapbook filled with pictures from magazines of things that seem appealing as well as things that seem appalling. The reason for this is that many people "think" they know what they like but then go shopping and find it an exercise in frustration. Pictures can convey much more of an idea of what you can and can't live with.
Needs and Wants
Make a list of wants and needs for the room. Needs would be a table and chairs. Wants would be area rugs and window treatments. Focus on the needs first, then address the wants. Don't be frustrated if you have to purchase items one at a time. A well-designed room
Key Components
A table with leaves can accommodate extra guests, and have at least two additional chairs. Use an area rug under the dining table and chairs. Lighting can make more of a statement than almost any other piece in the room.
Finishing Touches
Many big-box stores have high-end designers selling collections geared to the masses that sell for reasonable prices. You can often purchase a service for eight that looks like the ones sold in high-end boutiques less than $40.
Fun Fact
Hundreds of years ago, the master of the household always had his own special chair, and food provided to guests was called the "board." Over time, this position of power changed in the English lexicon and became "chairman of the board."
