Disney characters have long been popular in wall murals, especially for kids. Drawing a Disney mural on a bedroom wall doesn't have to be a complicated process. By following the steps from rough drawing to finished product, you should be able to draw and paint a Disney mural on any bedroom wall in your home.
Instructions
1. Decide what kind of Disney mural you'd like, whether it's a montage of Disney images or something that resembles a scene from a Disney movie. This information will help you narrow down the types of reference images you must find.
2. Get reference materials, such as Disney posters, books, VCR jackets or pictures from the Internet. You'll want materials that are iconic, such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck or the 101 Dalmatians.
3. Create several thumbnail sketches in your sketchpad.
4. Draw some roughs of your design ideas in your sketchbook and color them in with the colored pencils. These should look close to the way you want the finished art to look. In both the thumbnail and the color-rough stage, you'll want to work out any design flaws, composition difficulties and color choices.
5. Draw your final drawing in your sketchbook. This is the small-scale version of the drawing that you're going to enlarge for your Disney mural. You'll want to make sure that all the flaws to your drawing and composition are worked out. If they are not, the flaws will show up in your murals.
6. Buy the paint necessary for the job. Bring along your finished scale drawing so that you can compare colors. Disney colors are typically bright. You can use a mix of latex paint for large areas that are going to be painted a single color and artist's quality acrylic for the more detailed areas.
7. Prepare the wall for painting. This might include washing it down, sanding out rough spots or filling in holes. The better the painting surface, the longer the mural will last. You can set up the lights if you think you'll need them at this point as well.
8. Enlarge your final drawing and draw it on the wall. You can use a grid, an opaque or overhead projector. The opaque projector is probably the least amount of work because all you have to do is insert your drawing into it, and it'll project an enlarged version of your drawing onto the wall. You then is trace the lines of your drawing, which are projected onto the wall.
9. Block out the large color areas and paint them. These are typically background or sky areas that might only be one large wash of color. Let this area dry.
10. Paint the smaller, more detailed areas. Let dry. Your Disney image will emerge by the end of this step.
11. Stand back and assess your mural. Correct any areas that need to be corrected.
12. Clean your brushes with turpentine and Dove bar soap. Rinse thoroughly.
