Problems With Storage In Small Bedrooms

Having a small bedroom leads to many problems with storage. These problems in turn affect different aspects on a person's life from social gatherings, to doing homework, to storing everything a person owns. This article will describe problems with bedroom storage and help to solve such problems.

Furniture

Often people will fill the bedroom with unnecessary furniture. The bed is obviously the most important element of the bedroom, but consider the size of the bed and the size of the bedroom. Make sure there is enough room to walk around the bed on at least three sides.

Another tip for the bed is to get a high level bed that has room underneath for storage. Some beds come designed with drawers built in under the bed. Shallow storage totes can usually be stored under most beds if drawers are not available.

In the case of a very small room, day beds or futons, which can fold up to couch size during the day, are great alternatives.

Nightstands and dressers are all considered bedroom furniture, but how much of it do you really need? If you have a big closet that fits everything, then get rid of the dresser and you will have more room.

Sometimes it is better to have custom furniture built into the area. This will assure it is the perfect size and will maximize the potential of the room.

Closet Space

Closet organizers can be found at most department stores. Closet organizer sets range in style, size and use. If you have a lot of hanging items, make two rows to hang instead of one. This can be done on one side by putting one row on top of the other. Also, thin clothes hangers make it easier to fit more clothes.

Closets can also be organized with shelving, racks and drawers, but the No. 1 tip for closet storage is to be mindful of how much you own and how much you really need. Storing seasonal clothing elsewhere during the off seasons will also help.

If a closet is not available, use one entire wall for an organizing area. Not only will it help with storage, but it will help to make the room appear larger. Stacking shelving would be an example.

Decor

There are many ways to make a room appear larger with the right colors. For the bed, use a simple design for the bedspread. Bright colors help help create warmth. Light colors can help to make the room feel airy. Mirrors can also make the room appear larger.

Electronics

A wall mounted TV would save space in a small bedroom. Wall mounted shelving can also come into play for stereos. Keeping as little stored on the floor as possible will help with space and storage.

Paint

While the color of paint in the room will not help with storage, it will help make the room appear larger, and will help if you are using a wall for storage. Neutral, light wall colors can make a room feel more open and airy. Dark colors will enclose a space and make it feel smaller.
