Sleep With A Litter Box In Your Bedroom

If you have indoor cats, you have at least one litter box. Finding the right place for litter boxes can be challenging. If your cat sleeps in your bedroom, you may consider having one there. However, odors and sounds can both cause difficulty for people trying to sleep. If you live in a small apartment or home, you may not have other options. There are simple steps you can take to increase your chances of sleeping through the night with a litter box in the bedroom.

Instructions

1. Purchase a covered litter box. This will help reduce the amount of mess that is made and will give your cat a secure place to do his business. It will also partially block the sound of digging if that bothers you while you sleep.

2. Select a location in your bedroom for the litter box. If your master bedroom has two closets, the corner of one closet may be the perfect location for a litter box. Because it is secluded, you and your cat will not disturb each other when she needs to use the box.

3. Purchase an inexpensive screen to separate the litter box from the rest of your bedroom. Place the litter box in a corner and use the screen in between the box and your bed.

4. Choose a litter that is billed as having immediate odor control. Even if you are a one-cat household, a litter formulated for multiple cats may help reduce odors if your cat uses the litter box while you are trying to sleep.

5. Scoop out your litter box at least once per day, and more often if you have multiple cats that use the box. Once a week, empty the box entirely and give it a thorough cleaning and fresh litter.

6. Spend time playing with your cat before you go to bed. Many cats seek attention at night because they have not been active enough during the day. Pull out your cat's favorite toys in the early evening to give him the attention he needs. This increases the chances of your cat sleeping through the night.
