Bedroom Colors

About Bedroom Colors

Taking on a redecoration project can be a little intimidating, but if you understand combine different colors so that they complement each other in some way, it becomes more of a pleasure than a chore. There is no place in the house where proper color schemes are more important than in the bedrooms.

Function

A bedroom is more than a bedroom these days. It is a retreat, a place you can escape to at the end of a long day. It functions as a reading room, an office, a place to enjoy a cup of coffee in peace. The way you decorate your bedroom, especially the color scheme, will do more than reflect your taste. It will make it a peaceful oasis or a vibrant energy source.

Features

Bedroom colors need to complement each other, but your favorite colors might not work well together, no matter how much you like them. You need to use a color wheel to determine which colors go together. There are three ways to combine colors using the color wheel. You can choose a monochromatic color scheme, using different shades of the same color such as green, mint and olive; you can pick colors that are next to each other on the wheel, like green and yellow or blue and green; or, if you want to create a dramatic room, choose colors that complement each other, the ones directly opposite on the color wheel like yellow and violet or red and orange.

Types

For a relaxing atmosphere, neutrals are the way to go. Light shades of green, such as sage, fern and sea mist, are nice base colors with accents in browns and golds.

Ecology is a popular theme with blue for the sky and green for the earth.

For a bedroom that is both dramatic and relaxing, a room done is shades of pink is all the rage. You need a big room to carry this off right, or the single color can become overwhelming.

Considerations

Small bedrooms need extra considerations. Lighter colors will make it seem bigger. Use bright colors for accents. If you want darker walls in a small room, compromise and paint just one wall dark. The contrast between the light and dark wall colors will create an optical illusion, making it seem as if the darker one is farther away.

Effects

The use of color can create any type of space you want, and it can also add to the marketability of your property. The more a buyer can feel like your home creates a harmonious atmosphere, especially in the master bedroom, the greater the likelihood of your house being sold.
