Chic Bedroom Ideas

Above all, your bedroom should reflect your own personal style.

The bedroom should be more than just a place of escape and repose from the rest of the house; it should be a place where you feel the room reflects your own personal style. Chic decorative accents can turn your bedroom into a place you feel excited to relax in. Luckily, such accents don't need to cost a lot.

Revamp Your Bed

You can drastically transform your bed from an ordinary place of sleep and rest to a destination point in your room. Invest in a range of quality throw pillows that complement the decor of your room. For an ultra chic look, use pillows that come with a range of fabrics and textures. For example, silk and satin are standard throw pillow materials, but now manufacturers are creating pillows made of faux fur, leather, suede, corduroy, denim and velvet, with decorative additions like buttons, ruffles, bows, beads, and other ornamental items. Purchasing six or more pillows in a range of designs will give your bed an effortlessly chic look.

Walls

According to Carol Endler Strebenz and Genevieve Strebenz, authors of the book, "Faux Chic: Creating the Rich Look You Want for Less," the color of the bedroom walls is like the tone of voice. Soft colors like pastels are whispered, soft tones, whereas bright colors and daring patterns are like shouts for attention. You can create a richer sense of chic by painting the walls of your bedroom in stripes with painter's tape to give it the chic look of wallpaper. Alternatively, you can color wash the walls: this process refers to painting the walls with tinted glaze over a base color to give the walls a more intense look. You can control how intense the look is by how many coats of tined glaze you apply. Regardless, the technique helps to establish a sense of sophistication in the room.

Lamps

Lamps wield an enormous influence over the look of a room. For example, a near effortless way to achieve a sense of chic in a bedroom is by hanging a large chandelier in the middle of the bedroom. The chandelier can be classical, modern or even shabby chic; regardless, it will give the room an inherent sense of sophistication. Table or bedside lamps such as hand-painted ceramic ones or lamps with beaded shades help to complete the look.
