Clean Diningroom Table Scratches In The Wax

Small scratches on a wood table are easy to repair

Dining-room tables are highly susceptible to scratches since they are frequently used and exposed to sharp objects. Forks, knives, dishes and even cuff links or fingernails can damage the surface of a table. Scratches may be light and difficult to see, or they may be deep and penetrate through the protective coating on the table to damage the wood beneath. Scratches in the wax of a table are simple to remove and correct using items from home improvement stores.

Instructions

1. Wipe down the scratched area with a soft cloth. This will remove debris and dirt so that you are starting with a clean surface.

2. Take a very fine gauge steel wool, such as #0000 steel wool, and rub it into the scratch with the grain using gentle pressure. Continue rubbing with the steel wool until the finish has exposed the entire scratch.

3. Purchase a stain pen in a color to match the wood of the table. Follow the manufacturer's directions to apply the stain pen to the entire length of the scratch. Make sure that all of the scratch has been covered by the stain so that it matches the table.

4. Allow the stain to dry according to the manufacturer's directions.

5. Rub a paste wax into the scratch. Apply enough paste wax so that the scratched area matches the finish of the entire table. Follow the manufacturer's instructions while using paste wax.
