What Decorating Things Do You Put In A Grey Bedroom

Shades of gray with accenting colors create a dramatic effect.

The color gray is considered a neutral, soothing color, the blend of black and white and an ideal main color scheme for your bedroom. Shades of gray coordinate well with any bedroom style, from contemporary to colonial. The furniture and accent pieces in your gray bedroom will complement the overall design and tie the room together.

The Color Gray

Hundreds of variations and shades of gray exist, depending on the amount of white to black and if any other color is added to the mix. Warmer shades of gray will also contain a hint of yellow, orange, red or brown while cooler gray tones are tinted with blue, green or purple. Using several shades and tints (dark and light) of a single gray color will coordinate and blend the elements in your bedroom. As an example, select a cool blue-toned gray for your bedroom theme. Paint the walls a medium or dark shade of the blue-gray and a lighter tint of the same color for the floor treatment. Trim can be an even lighter tint for a completely coordinated and blended look.

The Bedroom

A bedroom is considered a retreat, or haven, a place to relax and have tranquility. Gray is an ideal primary color for a bedroom to create a serene, restful environment. Choosing a cool-toned gray as the base color theme for your bedroom tends to be a more contemporary statement than using warmer-toned grays. Whatever gray you select for the primary color scheme in your bedroom, as long as there is consistency in the shades and tones of the gray color, the overall final result will be a tranquil, inviting retreat.

Furniture

The type and style of furniture you use for your bedroom should complement the gray color theme. Cooler -appearing furniture materials, like metal, chrome and white, will look better with blue-gray or white-gray color schemes. Natural or stained wood bed frames, chairs and nightstands will have a rich look when combined with a warm gray that has a hint of brown, yellow, red or orange.

Accents

Although minimally used throughout your bedroom, colored accents will add interest and a finishing touch. Like selecting one gray color and using different shades and tints, pick one accent color, then add a few items throughout your bedroom. Lampshades, drapes, bed-skirts, upholstery, throw pillows, wall hangings and artwork are a few items that can be used as contrasting color in gray-themed bedrooms. An example would be a warm gray bedroom with two or three rust-colored bed pillows, darker rust-colored lampshades on the nightstand and lighter rust-colored upholstered chairs. Hang wall art that incorporates rust, orange, brown and warm-gray as a finishing touch.
