Storage can be a challenge in small bedrooms.
Storage is a problem in many bedrooms, particularly in small spaces. When you are faced with increasing storage space in your room, consider how you can work creative solutions into the design and decor to create a scheme that is both attractive and functional.
Platform Bed
In a small room, replace your bed frame and headboard with a platform bed that can double as a storage system. Build or buy a simple platform bed that has a hollow interior and a lid that lifts or slides off. Add recessed shelves to the sides of the platform to create space for books or other decorative items. Before you put your mattress on the platform, store unsightly items and things you do not use often on the interior.

Nightstands
Night tables are often overlooked as storage solutions. Add fabric skirts to small tables for hidden storage, or create a design statement and storage solution in one by using stacked items. Show off a collection of vintage suitcases or hat boxes by stacking them on either side of the bed and using the interiors as storage. In creating your own bedside tables, you can match them to your bed height for increased functionality.
Fabric Panels
If you have a large bedroom, turn a section of it into hidden storage. Mark off an area of one end of the room, and hang fabric panels from the ceiling to the floor about 3 feet away from the wall to create instant hidden storage. Put bookshelves behind the curtain to organize smaller items, or place a clothing rack to hold out-of-season clothing. You can also use the space to stack luggage or store large items like sports equipment without cluttering up the room.
