Paint A Melamine Bathroom Vanity

If your melamine bathroom cabinets are in need of a face lift, paint them a different color. Melamine is a hard, stain- and heat-resistant surface that is bonded to particleboard or hardwood material. The melamine covering is also easy to clean due to its hard solid surface. Repainting the cabinets with special melamine paint will change the look of the cabinet while maintaining the durability of the melamine.

Instructions

1. Remove the cabinet doors from the vanity. Remove any knobs or hinges. Place any hardware and screws in a plastic bag.

2. Put on gloves and mix the TSP according to the manufacturer's directions. Wipe down the vanity and cabinet doors with the TSP solution.

3. Use an orbital sander to lightly sand the cabinet and vanity surface. Wipe any excess dust away from the surface.

4. Apply one coat of melamine primer to the surfaces of the cabinets and vanity. Allow the primer to dry completely.

5. Use a roller to paint one coat of melamine paint on the surface of the cabinet doors and vanity. Allow the coat of paint to dry. Check the label instructions for drying times, as these can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

6. Sand the entire surface of the doors and vanity with fine-grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust.

7. Apply a second coat of paint to the cabinet doors and vanity. Allow the paint to dry completely.

8. Attach the hardware and mount the doors back onto the vanity.
