Decorate a Beach Themed Bedroom
1. Start by painting your room in one or two colors taken from the sea and beach. Soft hues of white, beige, turquoise and blues will give your room a relaxed, breezy feeling.
2. Give your dark furniture a lift by whitewashing, and you may even want to replace some smaller pieces of furniture with bamboo or wicker. You could also rough off the edges of whitewashed furniture with a fine sandpaper, giving the piece a "sea-weathered" look.
3. Add a splash of color to your draperies, bedding and pillows. For bedding, choose soft, buttery fabrics such as sateen sheets or Egyptian cotton in pale shades of blue, sea-foam green or even lavender. For drama, complete the bedding with a comforter in splashier colors such as tangerine, purple, lemony yellows and pinks, like those of tropical flowers. Toss on some some great throw pillows and shams in these same hues and hang light and airy sheer curtains from natural bamboo rods. For a different effect, hang a combination of colors of sheer panels in beige, white, coral or lavender.
4. Hang a mosquito net from the ceiling over the bed for a romantic, windswept look. Adorn your netting with seashells. Mosquito nets come in both round and rectangular styles and complete the tropical look.
