Layout Bedroom Furniture

Layout Bedroom Furniture

While it may seem simple enough to put your bedroom furniture in your room and be done, there's more to decorating your bedroom than that. A well laid-out room allows you to move freely and easily access everything you need. A good layout transforms your bedroom into a retreat space you can't wait to relax in.

Instructions

1. Plan where you want to place your bed to create the focal point of the room. The bed should rest along one wall or sit angled, but be sure to allow access to both sides of the bed with the foot of the bed facing the main entryway, if possible, to welcome you into the room.

2. Place a nightstand on each side of the bed, to help anchor the room. Place a lamp on each of the nightstands for a symmetrical and functional look, as well as an alarm clock on at least one of the tables.

3. Place any dressers or armoires in the room along a wall where the they won't break up any lines of traffic (1) through the room from door to door or (2) from the entryway to either side of the bed. Try not to crowd everything along the same wall if you can avoid it.

4. Add an upholstered chair, small love seat or lounge in a corner or out-of-the-way area, to create a relaxed nook in the room for dressing or reading. If space allows, place a floor lamp and/or side table next to it.

5. Add textural items such as rugs, curtains, sheet sets, comforters and throw pillows that either match one another, or create a theme such as floral prints, pastels or shades of beige.

6. Place any artwork or photographs on one or two walls in the room, but remember that wall decor should consume approximately two-thirds of the space available. A small piece hung on a large portion of wall, or a large piece on too small of a wall, can make the room look off balance.
