Princess-themed rooms can delight toddlers.
For many little girls, princesses are a favorite theme in movies, books, and clothing. When decorating a toddler's bedroom in a princess theme, it is important to use elements that can withstand the wear and tear of a small child. Include some items with images of your little girl's favorite princess and leave the rest of the room generic to accommodate changing future tastes.
Dressing Table with "Magic" Mirror
To give your toddler a place to sit and feel like a princess, buy a dressing table sized for small children. Include a lushly upholstered stool with skirt and an ornate, "magic" mirror. Place various princess accessories: crown, wand, and clip-on earrings on the dressing table. You might also include a fancy perfume bottle filled with water and play makeup.
Bedding
One of the easiest way to add a princess theme is in your child's bedding. Look for comforter and pillow sham sets that have princess prints on them. Disney licenses many items with images of their princesses, including bedding sets. Or, purchase one or two princess-print pillows and coordinate the sheets, comforters, and pillowcases in solid colors or simple stripes or polka dots to match. Look for colors that evoke the image of your toddler's favorite princess, and avoid bedding in fabrics that are difficult to keep clean.
Canopy
For a luxurious touch in a princess-themed room, consider adding a flowing canopy above the bed. You can purchase canopies or make your own by securing yards of tulle or sheer curtains to a circular wooden frame. Attach the frame to the ceiling above the head of your toddler's bed and drape the fabric down and around the sides of the bed. Because toddlers are likely to pull at the hanging fabric, be sure that the wooden ring is tightly attached to the ceiling and attach the fabric with Velcro so that it comes down instead of the ring.
Royal Wall Clings
Many home decorating stores sell wall clings--vinyl wall decals--that are washable and removable; this is an easy way to add princess touches to
Paint and borders
A princess room tends to be oriented around the color pink; for a serious redesign project, consider painting the walls pink or lilac. Look for paint that is washable and doesn't mark easily. If you're going to paint, make sure the color works with the bedding you have chosen. There are many shades of pink, and not all of them work well together. If you do not want to paint, you can add a princess-themed border to the walls of the bedroom. Look for castles, crowns, clouds, flowers, and vines.
