Makeover A Master Bedroom On A Budget

A master bedroom may be designed for practicality, but it is also where much time within the home is often spent. As much as any room in the house, it deserves to be a place of beauty that you can proudly show off to all your guests. Keep your master bedroom's look up-to-date with a few simple and cost-effective makeover techniques.

Instructions

1. Paint the room, or, for an easier alternative, only paint one wall. Paint is relatively inexpensive, and even if it's only on one wall, it will give your room an entirely new feel. Consider texturing the walls or using a special painting technique to add even more depth.

2. Cover your bedspread with a duvet cover. Bedspreads are expensive, but a duvet cover will give you that new look you want while being more budget-friendly. Add a further touch by draping a solid-colored coverlet you already have over the end of the bed.

3. Add one large or a couple of small throw pillows to the bed. Or, if you already have throw pillows, give them a facelift by covering them with new shams.

4. Rearrange the furniture and rugs in your room to create a new look and feel. This simple maneuver costs nothing.

5. Replace old drapes. If you are a crafty person, make your own. Otherwise, keep your eye out for some on a great sale. New drapes have the potential to add a dramatic flare to the room, especially if you have large or prominent windows.

6. Raid your house or garage for items that you can turn into bedroom decor. Hang an old mirror by a large piece of ribbon on the wall, or find a vase to add to your room as a permanent addition for fresh flowers.

7. Use old photos to create an artistic display, or "frame" other objects, such as a skeleton key or dried flowers, by removing the glass from a three-dimensional frame and hanging the object within the frame on the wall.

8. Remove an old, faded rug and simply leave your floor bare, creating the illusion of more floor space.

9. Update your lighting with a new lamp or overhead light. Avoid having to buy new lighting altogether by recovering or replacing a lampshade. Try covering the lamp with a sheer piece of fabric for another simple and inexpensive alternative.
