Privacy Requirements
When bedroom windows face the street or other homes, having a convenient way to close off the window is essential for privacy. Select window treatments that will allow flexibility, like curtains hung from a rod that can be opened and closed to block windows, blinds, shutters or shades when you need privacy.
Light Requirements
As the sun rises, so do those who slumber in a room where curtains don't keep the light out. Select heavy drapes or blackout linings if sunlight is an annoyance. For those who enjoy rising with the sun, the variety of choices should not include blackout linings.
Heating & Cooling Requirements
The position of the rooms, the amount of windows and their sizes, all factor into the best way to handle both the aesthetic and practical considerations for using fabric treatments as a way to economize on home heating and cooling.
North bear the brunt of winter storms. South facing bedrooms will absorb the full blast of summer's heat. Selecting fabrics to align with the seasons or to help offset heating or air conditioning costs is another element to consider when dressing windows for the first time or when making new curtain purchases.
Window Treatments
Sliding panels with inner linings are a popular trend in dressing bedroom windows as is layering window treatments. Using a combination of fabric shades, wooden blinds and draperies on top of them or to balance out the sides of a window or cover it entirely is another option when dressing a window up, or creating a casual relaxed mood in a bedroom.
Fabric valances or hard cornice treatments, which may extend across the tops and partially down the sides of the window are other decorative elements used in creating a total window treatment look.
