Organize A Small Bedroom Closet

Small closets need organization to maximize their space.

Small closets seemingly hold next to nothing. However, by reducing clutter and organizing the remaining items, you can maximize the space.

Instructions

1. Pull everything out of your closet and give it a good cleaning. Closets tend to be the most neglected area in the house when it comes to cleaning.

2. Take three bags or boxes: one for things to give away, one for those to wash or repair, and one for things to store. Also keep a small trash can nearby.

3. Go through all your clothes and accessories. Be honest with yourself and ask if you will ever wear that item again. If not, put in the giveaway box. While you are going through your clothes, check to see if anything needs repairing or cleaning; put those in the appropriate box.

4. Look at every bit of space you have in your closet and think how you can use it. The floor can hold a shoe shelf or a large basket for purses. Keep a box in the corner for things to give away. Add a shelf above the hanging bar can hold plastic boxes for shoes, sweaters or purses. Consider adding a bar about 2 feet lower than the first. The back of the door can hold a shoe bag or over-the-door hooks for often-used items of clothing such as robes and jackets.

5. Group shoes together, no matter what storage method you use.

6. Group clothes together first by what they are, such as all tops, all dresses. Then arrange them by color.

7. Hang long items, such as pants and dresses, on the top bar; shirts, shorts and other short items can hang from the bottom bar.

8. Remove your out-of-season clothes that you do still wear and put them in an under-bed storage box. If your bed is too short, buy bed lifts that go under each leg.
